Congratulations to Cami Checketts, who is the winner of a free signed copy of Portrait of a Mother.

As promised, her is a 'portrait' of my own mother.
My mother deserves all the praise I can dish out.  Not many mothers can raise eight children and have them all turn out to be happy, productive people. She stayed home to take care of us kids, and truly devoted herself to us.  She set a good example of hard work and compassion for us.  She encouraged us to pursue our talents, and I owe much of my love of music to her early and consistent piano lessons and her playing musical soundtracks for us and explaining the stories.

She possessed a great deal of patience, even in the face of chaos.  There was plenty of that.  She also took the time to play with us, to talk to us about our lives and to show us how to do things about housework and taking care of children that have proved invaluable to me now that I am a parent myself.

It seemed that wherever we moved with the military growing up, my mother would quickly find friends.  People trust her and feel like they can come to her for a listening ear, and she’s just fun to be around.  If her fun-loving personality doesn’t win you over, her homemade whole wheat bread will.

There is so much more I could say about my mother, but let me just say that I love and appreciate her for helping to mold me into the person I am today by setting such a good example for me.

Check out my blog later this week for my book trailer for “The Last Archangel”.  One reviewer, Author J. Lloyd Morgan said: “When you get this book, you'll want to clear your schedule for the next couple of days. At the very least, leave a note for your loved ones explaining that you're fine, just lost in an excellent story.”

Also check out this contest, in which you can win some great books, including a copy of “The Canticle Kingdom.”

One Response so far.

  1. Thank you, Michael. I just received Portrait of a Mother. I love, love, love that book! I'm definitely buying one for my own angelic mother.
Thanks for sharing your mom with us. I love examples like that. It helps me keep going with four wild little boys.
